Our open-pit mine and concentrator in Voisey's Bay - Vale's only fly-in/fly-out operation in Canada - produces nickel-cobalt-copper concentrate and copper concentrate. An underground expansion will see a transition to a leading edge underground mine extending the life of the mine until 2034. Our state-of the-art facility in Long Harbour is the first nickel processing plant in the world to use hydrometallurgy technology to produce Plating RoundsTM from hard rock (sulphide) concentrate, with low carbon footprint compared to traditional smelter technology. Our offices in St. John's and Goose Bay provide support to the Newfoundland and Labrador Operations The Opportunity We are currently seeking a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING CO-OP STUDENT WINTER 2023 to join our Vale Newfoundland and Labrador Operations in Voisey's Bay. This is a fixed term (4 month) position with fly-in fly-out operations with two weeks on, two weeks off rotation. As a Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to further your development by providing day-to-day support for various activities and initiatives within the Fixed Plant Maintenance Department. From assisting maintenance inspections, supporting maintenance decisions, and developing new procedures you will also gain a deeper understanding of our company and our sustainable approach to mining. You will be tasked with assisting maintenance inspections, supporting maintenance decisions, and developing new procedures. In this field-based position, you will be: Working with IPS team to gather data required for report development (weekly and monthly). Supporting development of KPI's and performance reports. Helping implement strategies related to materials coordination. Assisting with 5S Planning / implementation. Strong skills in Excel and MS Outlook will be an asset (previous exposure to SAP would be very valuable) About You Currently enrolled as a Mechanical Engineering student in a Co-op Program. Solid verbal, written and analytical communication skills. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products-proficiency in Excel is essential Proven time management and organization skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a proven safety record are essential. What's in it for You?
