Education: Bachelor's degree. Work setting: Architectural firm. Tasks: Adjust their designs to conform to limiting factors such as budget allocation and cost of materials. Award construction contracts to building contractors . Consult with clients to determine the type, style and purpose of renovations or new building construction being considered. Generate building plans and detailed drawings to be used by contractors and tradespersons. Manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in architecture or engineering projects. Negotiate contracts with clients with a focus on design, construction time, price or others. Participate in contract negotiations. Prepare documents showing both the structural needs and the materials required for construction. Project management. Conceptualize and design buildings and develop plans describing design specifications, building materials, costs and construction schedules. Construction site supervision. Prepare sketches and models. Perform architectural research . Conduct feasibility studies of building projects. Estimate costs. Tender and administer contracts. Monitor activities on construction sites to ensure compliance with specifications. Conduct feasibility studies and financial analyses of building projects. Supervision: Contractors. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Membership in the Provincial Association of Architects. Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification offered by the Canada Green Building Council. Design methods: Model making. Computer and technology knowledge: Architectural software programs. Adobe Photoshop. AutoCAD. Autodesk REVIT. SketchUp. Adobe Suite. InDesign. Architectural specialization: New construction.
