Job details
Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. Machine tool technology/machinist. Tool and die technology/technician. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Noisy. Work setting: Relocation costs not covered by employer. Metal product fabrication industry. Tasks: Compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of workpieces . Inspect final products. Set up machine tools such as lathes, milling machines and grinders. Test prototypes and production tools. Verify machined parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Program CNC machine tools. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Set up and operate electrical discharge machines (EDM). Lay out, shape and assemble patterns of metal, wood, plastic and other materials from blueprints, models or templates. Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining. Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Tool and Die Maker Trade Certification. Mould Maker Trade Certification. Tool and Die Maker Red Seal Certificate. Computer and technology knowledge: AutoCAD. Metal mould-making experience: Injection moulds. Patternmaking experience: Plastics patternmaking. Tool and die fabrication experience: Gauge blocks. Jigs and fixtures. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Own transportation. Willing to travel. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Standing for extended periods. Own tools/equipment: Tools. Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication. Excellent written communication. Flexibility. Organized. Team player.
