Education: College/CEGEP. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Installation. Testing. Repair. Tasks: Diagnose and locate equipment faults, and adjust, replace or repair telecommunications equipment. Inspect operation of telecommunications equipment. Install, arrange, remove and maintain telephone equipment, wiring and associated hardware. Repair or replace defective telephone equipment. Complete and maintain test and service reports. Determine nature, cause and location of trouble. Inspect and test trunking systems. Install electromechanical, analog and digital trunking systems, circuits and equipment in telecommunications central offices and switching centres. Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders or other support structures. Connect, disconnect and relocate cable outlets. Inspect, test and repair cable signals and associated equipment. Install cable modems and software to enable Internet access. Repair or replace faulty cables, power suppliers and amplifiers. Computer and technology knowledge: Trunking system. Computerized testing system. Telecommunication system. Equipment and machinery experience: Aerial and underground cable lines. Amplifiers. Cable outlets. Converters. Splitters.
