*Responsibilities include:*
* Ensure the emotional and physical health of LAWS animals
* Follow all disease and infection control, intake, and health and wellness protocols and best practices
* Provide medical and general animal assessment services
* Monitor animal health and well-being of each individual animal and herd health
* Administer prescribed treatments and other medical and diagnostic interventions
* Accurate record-keeping and data input into the shelter management system
* Provide education, information and support to LAWS staff and clients
* Perform daily rounds and make necessary changes to any animal's daily routines as needed.
* Act as key medical liaison with veterinarian clinics
* Ensure animals are in compliance with feeding, medicine, vaccine, internal/external parasite control protocols, best practices and directions from the veterinarian
* Control all prescription medication, complete drug log, and ensure safe/locked storage
* Lead Veterinary Day at the shelter by compiling the list of animals for attention and being in attendance during these sessions in order to provide information and respond to inquiries by the veterinarians
* Coordinate and communicate with Foster to Adopt or Foster families regarding vaccines, health concerns, and spay/neuter surgeries and keep open communication with foster coordinators
* Create and manage the enrichment program
* Perform animal care cleaning duties as necessary
* Support adoptions by providing adoption counselling, post adoptable animals, on social media and support their inquiries
* Work within the Fear Free Shelter philosophy
* Model and train safe handling, intake skills to staff and volunteers
* Supervises Animal Care Attendants, foster coordinators and volunteers
* Provide transport to and from veterinary clinic(s)
*Qualifications:*
* 1-3 years of clinical or shelter experience
* A Veterinary Technician diploma or similar/equivalent experience
* Excellent verbal and written skills in English are required
* Experience supervising or training staff preferred
* Valid G Class Driver's License and maintain a clean driver abstract
*Essential duties and working conditions:*
* This is a casual part-time position for a 6-month contract period
* A small amount of weekly scheduled hours with the majority of hours on-call and sick/vacation coverage
* Employment is conditional upon the ability to provide services in a safe manner, including, but not limited to lifts and transfers of large animals and to lift 50 lbs
