*JOB DESCRIPTION: *
* · Primarily responsible for the boots-on-the-ground, day-to-day implementation of our forest harvesting planning and operations on our Ottawa Valley Forest and Bancroft Minden Forest crown licenses.
* · Additional responsibilities will include the following:
* Ensure adherence to the safety, environment, and fire-prevention standards of OVFI, BMFC, and of Haliburton Forest.
* Responsible individual with autonomy and a flexible schedule.
* Scout allocations, conduct inventories, development roads and access plans to develop multi-year harvest plans for logging contractors.
* Implement the log quality and log procurement program on landings and in the Neuman Forest Products Yard. Position may grow to include co-ordinating log and veneer sales.
* Assist with day-to-day logging operation management as needed, including supervision, co-ordination, layout, and problem solving.
* Program may grow to include standing timber procurement, or private lands consulting.
* This position will occasionally assist with forest operations and silviculture on Haliburton Forest?s nearby freehold lands, in the West Guilford and Harcourt regions.
* Candidates must be located in, or prepared to relocate to, Palmer Rapids, Barry?s Bay, or Bancroft areas.
*QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:*
* Forest Technicians or Registered Professional Forester designation, or ability to achieve such a designation within 18 months of accepting the position, will be considered an asset.
* College diploma or Bachelor?s degree in forestry or a related natural resources discipline.
* Confidence working in the bush alone in all weather conditions and terrain.
* Knowledge of the silvicultural systems/practices in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Forest.
* Applicant is required to provide their own forestry-suitable vehicle and will be compensated for use of their vehicle according to the Haliburton Forest vehicle program.
* Experience with harvest operations supervision and block development is required.
* Ontario Forest Operations Inspection Program certification is an asset.
* Tree Marking Certification and/or marking experience is an asset.
* Ontario scaling certification or scaling experience is an asset.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and professionalism.
* Functional field skills with GIS, GPS, and related technologies.
*COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS:*
Compensation will be determined based on the experience of the candidate. Similar to all positions with Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve and its subsidiaries, recreational access to the 100,000 acres of private land owned and managed by Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve.
