Cooking Instructor 1Casual - Competition #24017CNorth Vancouver Recreation & Culture (NVRC) is dedicated to building healthy individuals, families and communities. NVRC offers a wide range of recreation and cultural programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities. We are currently seeking energetic, responsible and highly-motivated individuals who are able to prepare and lead a variety of age appropriate cooking and baking programs for preschool, school age children and adults.WHY WORK FOR US?You will be an integral part of our dedicated staff team who continually strive to make a difference in the recreation and cultural lives of North Vancouver residents.GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICEYou will be delivering excellent customer service experiences. You will lead cooking and baking activities while creating a safe and fun environment. Set up, preparation, planning and clean up are responsibilities included in this position.ABOUT YOUYou are a courteous and effective team player committed to providing quality and safe programs for the community. You are reliable, responsive to customer needs, and excellent at building relationships. You will be comfortable working with children, adults, other leaders, volunteers and facility staff.DUTIES:As a casual Cooking Instructor 1 you will be responsible for lesson planning, and delivering a fun and interactive culinary learning experience for adults, school age, and/or preschool age children. Programs may include both cooking and baking components. Programs run Mon-Fri at a variety of times through the week. Shifts range in length from 3.5 hours to 7 hours.Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following, and will include tasks beyond the kitchen:Food preparation and Dishwashing Set-up and clean-up of cooking classes Create skills-based lesson plans which include Food Safe guidelines and best practices for food handling Ensure a premium cooking class experience is delivered to each student Instructing groups through basic recipes Occasional grocery shoppingSKILLS REQUIRED:Comfortable with food preparation (knife skills, safe food handling and basics of food storage) Experience in a kitchen is preferred Detail-oriented Responsible and able to work with limited supervision Solutions-oriented and adaptable to change An engaging, creative, hands-on, and interactive mannerQUALIFICATIONS:Applicants must be minimum 16 years of age, with a culinary aptitude and have previous experience planning and leading preschool, school age, youth or adult programs. Successful candidates must have current Food Safe Level 1, Emergency or Standard First Aid, CPR Level C. High Five certification must be obtained within 3 months of employment. All employees should be prepared to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location.
