Over the last 40 years, the organization has provided homes and essential support services to more than 1,600 seniors, families, and single adults.</p><ul><li>Salary is $49,860.46 - $53,184.49 annually for 37.5 - 40 hours weekly.</li><li>Pension of between 6.1% - 7.1% from employer contributions.</li><li>Paid time off ? including: 5 days personal leave, 15 days sick leave, 10 days? vacation in the first year which increases to 15 days in the second year, and increases continually every year up to a maximum of 34 days.</li><li>Room for professional growth in the organization which is the largest provider of homeless shelters in Toronto.</li></ul><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Maintenance Workers perform corrective and preventive maintenance on the Agency?s buildings, maintain a safe and healthy work environment, prepare vacant units for occupancy and adhere to the mission statement and policies and procedures of Homes First Society. <br><br><strong>JOB REQUIREMENTS</strong></p><ul><li>Perform maintenance and repairs in the areas of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and general maintenance.</li><li>Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and interact positively with tenant populations who have experienced homelessness, mental health and addiction problems.</li><li>Maintain inventory and take care of tools and equipment.</li><li>Must have a valid driver?s license and reliable vehicle throughout employment.</li><li>Must be able to lift 25 kilograms.</li><li>Knowledge of group processes and dynamics</li><li>Demonstrated interpersonal and team work skills; ability to maintain co-operative working relationships with Shelter and Housing co-workers and interact positively with the tenant population who have experienced homelessness, mental health and aliiction problems</li><li>Demonstrated ability to work independently</li><li>Demonstrated organizational, time management, and administration skills</li><li>Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing</li><li>Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in languages other than English an asset</li></ul><p><strong><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></strong></p><ul><li>Minimum Grade 12 education.</li><li>At least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.</li><li>Good communication and organization skills.</li><li>Working knowledge of building management/maintenance routines, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code and able to ensure that Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS and other relevant standards and legal requirements are met.</li><li>Several years? experience working with people who are homeless, under-housed and who are hard to house</li><li>Knowledge of tenant population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices and systemic reasons for homelessness</li><li>Experience with rental legislation in Ontario</li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills</li><li>Knowledge of relevant laws, standards and guidelines</li><li>Knowledge of resources and services available in the community</li><li>Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and organization skills</li><li>Certificates in First Aid, CPR, Crisis Prevention and Intervention an asset</li></ul><p>** Note that the above job requirements are not exhaustive.
