<p>PRINCIPAL <p>HUGH JOHN MACDONALD SCHOOL <p>(Classification II)<p>Hugh John Macdonald is a Grade 7, 8, and 9 Middle School located in the inner city area. The school has a student population of 220 and has 45 staff. The school serves a diverse student body from families representing many cultures and backgrounds.<p>The emphasis at Hugh John Macdonald School is on interdisciplinary educational programming, with a focus on middle years pedagogy. HJM is a part of the Big Picture Learning network, with an emphasis of learning both within the school and community. Students are provided opportunities to participate in a rich arts program, including band, performing arts, and visual arts. Further enrichment options and opportunities are offered through technology, Indigenous Studies, Leadership, Bike Shop, and Industrial Arts. There are a number of English as an Additional Language learners attending the school for whom specific programming is provided. Additionally, the school hosts a vibrant Literacy, Academics, and Language (LAL) centre.<p>Community outreach programs such as Peaceful Village, Bridge Music for Life, and the Eagle's Circle Off-Campus Program at Rossbrook House add to the diverse and inclusive HJM environment. <p>School priorities include literacy and numeracy while targeting all students; in particular Indigenous and newcomer learners.<p>Starting Date: September 3, 2024 <p>Qualifications: Consideration will be given to applicants who have demonstrated the following qualifications and characteristics: Successful administrative and teaching experience in middle years; early years experience would be an asset;<p> Be in the forefront of educational practices, well versed in curricula and open to transformational practices that improve outcomes for all students;<p> Commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in all aspects of school;<p> Sensitivity, understanding and experience working with migrancy, poverty and intercultural diversity; and cultural learning opportunities;<p> Strong curriculum leadership skills; encourages a celebration of learning; supports arts, physical education and integrated technology programs;<p> Supportive of Big Picture ideas and innovative practices in programming and second language learning; commitment to continuing inclusive programming, including the Eagles Circle Program;<p> Holds high expectations for academic excellence; strong understanding of literacy and numeracy;<p> Firm, consistent and fair in dealing with student behavior issues; follow through with restorative practices;<p> Ability to work with the staff to review the present school plan and ensure its effective implementation through the school;<p> Demonstrated skill with conflict mediation; experience with restorative justice and Circle of Courage;<p> Appreciation and awareness of the cultural diversity of the school; recognition and inclusion of diverse voices into programming and planning;<p> Demonstrated ability to research, develop partnership, and obtain resource and supports within the community (private, corporate and government services);<p> Balances academic, mental health and community outreach initiatives;<p> Develops and maintains strong working relationships with parents, community, agencies and partners; encourages and supports parental involvement;<p> Knowledge and experience with programming for students with special needs and ability to work with school and divisional support staff in programming for students;<p> Leadership style that is collaborative and consultative; willingness to listen; involves staff, parents and community in decision-making; strong communication skills;<p> High visibility and interaction with students; the ability to gain the respect and trust of students;<p>
