Position SummaryThis position is primarily responsible for in-unit supervision of both the full-time and casual Fire Technicians. The Lead Fire Technician is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of firefighting equipment and apparatus, maintenance of related records, and site/prop preparation for course delivery and evaluations. Another area of responsibility is inventory control and purchase requisition management for equipment and some capital purchases, operating within the JIBC and FSD budgetary guidelines and under the direction of the Program Manager, Business & Contracts. Primary ResponsibilitiesFirst level of supervision of F/T and Casual Fire Technicians. Provides guidance, support and feedback to Fire Technicians in order to meet the operational needs, and performance expectations. Responsible for scheduling of leave, relief and work assignments for F/T and casual Fire Technicians. Provides orientation and training to newly hired Fire Technicians. Prepares and submits requisitions and purchase orders for a variety of operating and capital equipment approved within the FSD budget. Conducts research and makes recommendations on equipment and infrastructure replacement and upgrades. In consultation with the Program Manager, Business & Contracts, responsible for Inventory Control and documentation of FSD assets at the Maple Ridge Campus. Primary FSD site liaison for contractors and vendors for firefighting equipment. Assists with the development and operationalizing FSD guidelines and procedures for safe and appropriate use of FSD props and equipment at the MR Campus. Participates with the MR Campus? Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Acts as Safety Officer, when needed, at the MR Campus. Prepares reports and maintains records such as inventory control, accident reports, incident log, etc. Prepares and submits Casual Fire Technician timesheets. Initiating and completing minor repairs on pumps, SCBA equipment, fire extinguishers, nozzles and hoses. Scheduling and conducting regular and annual equipment testing (i.e. SCBA bench flow levels and ladder testing). Ensuring site and equipment compliance with
