Education and social services - - Type of position: Permanent full-time Reporting to the Head of Social Services, Psychology and Nutrition, the psychologist collaborates with other health professionals on major decisions affecting our patients? mental and medical health. They work closely with Social Services, Nutritional Services and Primary Care Nurse Practitioners, ensuring t to meet our patients? mental health and wellness needs in relation to their treatment plan at the SHC ? Canada. Psychological services are an important component of the comprehensive treatment plan for children and youth seen on an outpatient or inpatient basis at Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) - Canada. Responsibilities The psychologist's role is carried out at five levels: Assessment: - Provide psychological assessment, clinical counseling and support for patients and families related to their episode of care in order to: + Help them navigate complex issues affecting their well-being + Assess readiness for surgery + Provide coping mechanisms for pain management + Support adherence to rehabilitation plan + Promote leading a healthy lifestyle + Help patients and families deal with diagnoses and treatment plans - Understand the child or adolescent's functioning profile, needs and functional impacts (cognitive, affective or developmental) on the day of surgery, the rehabilitation process and acceptance of the medical diagnosis. - Evaluates the psychological support needs of the child or adolescent following the announcement of a medical diagnosis (e.g. orthopedic, metabolic, genetic, etc.). - Assesses suicidal risk, if necessary - Participates in interdisciplinary meetings for complex cases, and assesses the psychological contribution to the problems encountered. Intervention (medium-term or long-term): - Supports patient and family in understanding child/adolescent functioning and implementing recommendations; - Offers psychotherapy to help with mental health issues in the context of medical follow-up (e.g. depression, anxiety, grief, adjustment disorder, trauma, etc.) and when returning to physical/sport activities (e.g. fear of re-injury). - Provides motivational psychotherapy during rehabilitation Collaboration: - Ensures a common vision among psychology clinicians in providing cohesive, patient and family centered, wrap-around care to all patients at Shriners Hospitals for Children ? Canada - Supports front line staff in crisis management requiring psychology intervention should the situation arise while psychologist is on-site - Provides timely assessment and short term treatment for patients flagged during anxiety, depression or suicide screening - Identifies co-occurring mental health needs and refer to appropriate services in the community - Maintain timely clinical documentation and workload statistics As an integrated member of specialty interdisciplinary clinical teams: - Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to plan courses of treatment for patients and support in the delivery of mental health care - Perform team based complex case revisions - Provides clinical consultation for referral, prioritization of services and/or issues compromising the treatment plan; - Communicates with external resources involved in the patient's treatment plan. Research and Education - Actively participates in interdisciplinary clinical research projects - Works with university partners to provide supervision and education to pre-doctoral students in the discipline of Psychology Community: - Works with partners in the community to ensure continuity of care by referring to the appropriate community resources when a patient?s mental health and wellness needs are beyond the scope of Psychology services offered at SHC ? Canada Qualifications - Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Psychology or Doctorate of Psychology (D. Psy.) in Clinical Psychology (Required) - Member in good standing of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec (Required) - Minimum 2 years of e
