City of West KelownaEquipment Operator I(4-6 Month Term)The City of West Kelowna?s Public Works Department is looking for an experienced Equipment Operator to join our team in this temporary position. The focus of this term position will be to support the City?s Unidirectional Flushing Program with the operation of a tri-axel water truck.Summarized Position Responsibilities:The Equipment Operator will work under the direction of the Supervisor and Foreman and will be responsible to safely and effectively operate various equipment such as excavators, backhoes, loaders along with tandem/tri axel trucks with trailers, however the main focus will be the operation of the tri-axel water truck. As an equipment operator, you will be required to perform regular equipment inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs. The successful applicant will need to have the ability to work flexible hours, may include shift work and emergency call outs.Preference will be given to a skilled Equipment Operator holding a valid Class 1 License with extensive water truck operational experience, strong knowledge of working safely on roadways and related WorkSafeBC Regulation.Our Ideal Candidate:Grade 12 education Occupational First Aid Level I Valid Class 1 B.C. Driver?s License with air endorsement 5 years of experience working on the construction and/or repair and maintenance of municipal infrastructure 3 years of experience operating the types of equipment identified in the Duties and Responsibilities section above Traffic Control, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Ground Disturbance Level I Electrical Hazard Awareness, Snow/Ice Control Operator (APWA), Chainsaw Operations and Safe Practices, Safe Excavating and Shoring, WHMIS 2015 Adequate physical condition with sufficient strength and stamina to perform assigned duties in all types of weather, sometimes in the presence of noise, odor, dust, and dampness Knowledge of safe working and operating procedures related to equipment and tools as required to ensure the safety of other employees and the public Mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate all valves, levers, and other controls on the equipment Proficiency in the safe operation of all equipment within the CWK fleet Able to courteously deal with the public and co-workers under stressful conditions and / or tight timelines Applications are accepted online at westkelownacity.ca/jobs.
