Format: Program delivery method in-person or virtual. <p>Interested staff members are required to complete the following on-line application to the attention of: The Recruitment Team. This supply position is effective September 6, 2024 , and ends on or about June 27, 2025 and hiring is determined by system needs.<p>Program schedules is Monday to Friday; 9-12pm, &/or 12:30-3:30pm &/or 6:30-9:00pm. (Various hours, depending on program needs)<p>Location may be: The Uplands Learning Centre, 8210 Yonge Street, Thornhill, ON; <p>Participation House, 9 Butternut Lane, Markham, ON; <p>or Online <p>Thank you for your interest in the Adult Literacy and Basic Skills Instructor position with the York Region District School Board. The Literacy and Basic Skills program is outcomes-based, providing opportunities for adults to upgrade their reading, writing, math, and computer literacy skills. Instructors provide learner-centered programming based on the transitional goal-path of the learner i.e. employment, further education, or enhanced personal independence. Instructors work with each learner to develop an individualized Training Plan that serves as a guide to curriculum development and program delivery. Training Plans are also used for tracking learners progress as they move toward their transitional goal. <p>MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports directly to the LBS Manager.<p> Ensures classes are delivered in accordance with Board and Ministry guidelines.<p> Conducts individualized goal setting which includes Training Plan development.<p> Employs instructional strategies that respond to individual learner needs and goals.<p> Incorporates computers as a learning tool; teaches general computer skills and introduces learners to e-Channel learning.<p> Maintains accurate and detailed records in all aspects of student Training Plans and learner achievement.<p> Evaluates and reports student progress.<p> Submits records in a timely manner to the LBS Office as required.EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to OCT qualified individuals.<p> University degree.<p> Good working knowledge of outcomes-based instruction and the LBS Program Guidelines.<p> Experience teaching adults in a multilevel environment is an asset.<p> Accounting skills are an asset.<p> Excellent spoken and written English.<p> Strong problem-solving skills.<p> Excellent computer skills.To register and apply for a job posting, you must complete all four (4) steps : Visit our online employment application and either log into your account or create an account if you do not have one.<p> Complete a Portfolio (e.g. resume, professional supervisory references, etc.)<p> Search Job Postings and Apply<p> Verify that you have applied to the correct job posting in your Job Application LogEquity, Diversity and Inclusion Statement The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) believes in giving each and every applicant an equal opportunity to succeed on their own merit and we strive to hire staff that reflect and support the diverse perspectives, experiences and needs of students and communities.
