*Intimate partner and Family Violence Counsellor*
*This is a term position until March 2025, with possibility of extension, and the successful individual will work at both the Corner Brook Women?s Centre and at Willow House.*
This position will provide counselling service and support to residents of Willow House, the local transition house, as well as to community members. Presenting issues may vary, but a focus will be placed on providing support to individuals and children who have experienced intimate partner or family violence. The successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to develop and strengthen their counselling skills in a feminist environment.
Key Responsibilities
· To engage constructively and respectfully with individuals of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities and identities.
· Provide individual and group therapy to adults and children, including, but not limited to working concurrently with parents and/or other service providers
· Assessment of client?s psychological, emotional and physical status
· Assessment of level of danger the client faces and all safety risks
· Advocate for clients, initiating strategies that will guide the client toward therapeutic solutions
· Function as a team member to develop case plans that meet the client?s needs.
· Network to develop collaborative relationships with relevant government and community agencies to build community capacity and link clients to support services
· Contribute to staff development as requested
· Participate in evaluation of the program effectiveness and efficiency
Requirements
· Must be a licensed clinical social worker or professional counsellor
· Experience providing individual counseling and facilitating support groups
· Knowledge and understanding of trauma focused therapy
· Knowledge and understanding of family systems and strength based approach to practice
· Experience working with survivors of intimate partner and family violence, sexual trauma and child abuse required
· Knowledge and understanding of the cycle of violence and safety planning
· Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
· Knowledge and understanding of community resources
· Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
· Understanding of feminist principles
· Must provide a Criminal record and Vulnerable Sector check
