STAR Catholic is inviting applications for<p>the position of<p>Indigenous Education Coach <p>The primary function of The Indigenous Education Coach will serve the divisions schools in their commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation's Calls to Action (2015), and the OECDs Promising Practices in Supporting Success for Indigenous Students. STAR Catholic Schools serves approximately 4400 students in 12 schools in Beaumont, Leduc, Wetaskiwin, Ponoka, Lacombe and Drayton Valley.<p>The Indigenous Education Coach will support the Teacher Quality Standards, the Principal Quality Standards, the Superintendent Leadership Quality Standards outcomes, as well as the Division Education Plan.<p>Through the guidance and support of the Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, and the Director of Curriculum and Staff Development, the coach will lead by supporting and promoting best practices in:<p>Well-Being Help foster trust and confidence in the education system<p> Help to uphold and recognize the culture, language, and identity of Indigenous people with the schools and division<p> Focus on the overall wellbeing of students:physical, economic, psychological, cognitive, & social<p> Support all stakeholders in their understanding of <p> treaties and agreements with First Nations<p> legislation and agreements negotiated with Mtis <p> residential schools and their legacy. Participation <p> Support schools to develop interventions for First Nations students in the areas of academics, behavior, and transitions.<p> Help Indigenous parents/caregivers in supporting early engagement with their child and the school<p> Assist schools in implementing student retention best practices<p> Engagement Broaden current practices to include pedagogy that is consistent with Indigenous ways of learning and knowing.<p> Collaborate with neighboring First Nations and Mtis leaders, organizations, and communities to optimize learning success and development <p> Act as a resource to connect with Indigenous elders, knowledge keepers and organizations <p> Assist schools in strategies to work with absenteeism and punctuality<p> Support the visibility of Indigenous cultures in schools and classroomsAchievement Through research-based practices, align resources and build the capacity to develop collaborative, whole school approaches to support Indigenous student achievement Help to support high quality teaching by offering practical strategies and materials for the full integration of Indigenous perspectives and develop a knowledge and understanding of, and respect for, the histories, cultures, languages, contributions, perspectives, experiences, and contemporary contexts of Indigenous people into schools and classrooms<p> Provide professional development for Administrators Core Competencies and skill sets required: Knowledgeable in current research, structures and familiarity with Indigenous knowledge and culture<p> Excellent planning and organizational skills<p> Ability to share information in an open and collaborative manner<p> Effective facilitation, conflict management and problem-solving skills<p> Strong communication skills<p> Comfortable working with and speaking to groups of people<p> Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment <p>Qualifications: <p> Bachelor of Education degree<p> Technical skills (Google platforms) an asset<p> Knowledge and the ability to speak Cree is an asset, but not required<p> Experience working in an educational setting, and/or in Indigenous communitiesSuccessful applicants will be required to submit a current Criminal Record Check (inclusive of a vulnerable sector check) and a current Alberta Childrens Se
