District of LantzvilleMaintenance Technician IIDEFINITION:Under the direction of the Director of Public Works, the Maintenance Technician II performs various manual labour tasks, operates tools and equipment such as but not limited to, single axel dump truck, ride on lawn mower, push mower, chain saw, weed eater, drills, table saws, jack hammers, plate packers and other public works related tools. Also under the direction of the Director of Public Works may supervise, on occasion, up to two employees.EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:Performs heavy manual labour including, but not limited to, pick and shovel work, brush clearing, moving materials, concrete work, jack hammering, etc.; Assists and provides advice to other employees with their duties including, but not limited to, dump truck operation, gardening, water and sewer line digging and pipe laying, pavement laying and repair, drainage ditch maintenance, road marking, raking and shovelling; Performs sign maintenance and road marking, repair pavement defects. build minor infrastructure such as catch basins and manholes, etc.; Operates power tools and equipment including, but not limited to, tamper, plate packer, lawn mower, ride on lawn mower, weed eater, cement mixer, tar bucket, jackhammer, sander, circular saws, drills, as well as chain saws, oxy-acetylene cutting and other hand tools; Assists the Director of Public Works in weekly scheduling. Drive heavy vehicles, as required; Inspects equipment daily for visible damage, for fluid and fuel requirements, electrical systems, tire checks, etc., and reports any defects to Director of Public Works; Assists with assembly, removal and adjustment of attachments to various pieces of equipment; Emergency call outs and shift work may be required; Maintains all aspects of the Districts Water and Sewer Systems and reports any deficiencies to the Director of Public Works; Carries out Public Works Inspections on minor developments; Flagging as required; Other duties such as but not limited to animal carcass removal and roadside litter pickup; Reads water meters as required.MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; Valid EOCP level 2 water distribution and level I sewer collection certificates; Minimum of three year's experience in the maintenance of municipal infrastructure; Demonstrated ability to efficiently operate related equipment; Certificate in Chlorine Handling; Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labour; Good working knowledge of WCB Regulations. as relates to the work involved; First Aid training; Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments; Ability to deal effectively with co-workers and the public; Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence; Public Works Inspection Training; Supervisory experience; Valid Flagging Certificate. Additional InformationThis is a CUPE position with an hourly rate of $37.34 based on 35-hour work week.
