Housing ManagerThe Tla?amin Nation is a modern, forward thinking, self-governing nation located on the beautiful upper Sunshine Coast (qathet Region).Position SummaryJob Type: Full-time, permanentHours of Work: 8:30 - 4:30 Monday to FridayReporting to: Director of HousingDepartment: Housing The Housing Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Tla?amin Nation?s housing operations, ensuring effective administration and implementation of policies and practices. This dynamic role requires a manager who can handle daily management tasks decisively while supporting the Director of Housing in strategic planning and long-term objectives. The Housing Manager also plays a crucial role in community engagement, enhancing relationships within the community through proactive communication and support.Key ResponsibilitiesManages all housing administration activities in compliance with Tla?amin law, policy, and agreements under the guidance of the Director of Housing. Directly supervises the housing staff, overseeing staff performance, providing training, and ensuring high standards of professional conduct are maintained. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding Tla?amin Citizens, clients, employees, and general affairs of the Nation. Ensures timely and transparent communication with citizens and tenants reaching out to the Housing Department regarding tenancy needs and residential repairs and directs the team to respond efficiently. Maintains accurate and accessible records for all housing activities using advanced software programs. Works closely with other departments (Finance, Health, Social Development, Justice, Public Works) to tackle complex housing issues and deliver exceptional service. Supports the Director of Housing in the annual strategic planning of resource needs and departmental budgets. Leads the preparation and management of funding applications and agreements for housing projects including renovations, new constructions, and mold remediation. Works closely with the Director of Housing to develop housing policies, procedures and processes. Oversees the generation and completion of work orders, ensuring services are delivered promptly and professionally. Develops and implements short, medium, and long-term housing strategies, including contingency plans to address housing shortages. Actively engages with the community to understand their needs and enhance service delivery, fostering a strong community relationship. Collaborates with the Director of Housing to engage with other Nations and external partners, adopting best practices to enhance housing services. Schedules Housing Staff work plans throughout the year to foster reliability and consistency in service delivery. Directly supervises Housing Department employees. Communicates effectively and ensures clarity of roles and responsibilities. Ensures staff have tools, training, and resources to accomplish their work. Ensures that policies and procedures are understood and followed by staff including safe work practices. Ensures a respectful, healthy, and safe work environment. Responsible for hiring, orientation, supervision, and training of direct reports. Conducts regular performance planning and review with employees, providing constructive feedback and managing performance as required. Other related duties as assigned.QualificationsA post-secondary degree or technical diploma in a relevant field, preferably with 7+ years of relevant professional experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience working with Indigenous communities. Understanding and compassion regarding issues and barriers faced by Indigenous people. Ability to build trusting, positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Skilled in conflict resolution and capable of de-escalating tense situations effectively. Excellent communication, organizational, and prioritization skills are essential.
