*Temporary, full-time position (from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027) ? Guelph, ON*
Reporting to the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Waterborne Pathogens: Surveillance, Prediction and Mitigation, you will manage the research program and related projects conducted in the School of Environmental Sciences.
The CERC program will provide integrated solutions for pathogen surveillance, prediction and treatment. It will design, optimize and validate technologies that can, almost in real-time, detect pathogens and their sources, with an emphasis on systems that are easy to use, low-cost, open-source and open hardware, enabling their adoption in all parts of the globe. It will develop modelling tools that can represent the sources, fate and transport of pathogens and the risks they pose. Finally, low-cost, green infrastructure treatment systems will be developed and used to reduce pathogen risks during agricultural use, water-based recreation, or consumption.
Your key responsibilities will include:
· In conjunction with principal investigator and other collaborators, conceptualizing, recommending, and implementing research project plans, business plans, and an EDI plan requiring an understanding of the underlying scientific methods and principles, and of principles of equity diversity, and inclusion.
· Seeking new research opportunities, and helping in the development of new projects and proposals.
· Developing collaborations and partnerships with other partners, ensuring effective research transfer plays a major role in research collaborations with industry, providing consultation, setting up research trials, and negotiating funding support.
· Coordinating the activities of research staff and resources to ensure that projects progress in accordance with timelines and project plans.
· Troubleshooting problems at all stages of project development and implementation; assisting other researchers with modifying project plans and/or timelines to address challenges.
· Providing financial management by implementing and maintaining research project budgets, often working with multiple research grants and funding sources; creating financial projections, and making adjustments to research project budgets throughout the year.
· Managing research grants in accordance to university and sponsor requirements, ensuring budgetary and EDI plans are followed and grant/contract guidelines are adhered to.
· On behalf of the principal investigator, being responsible for human resources management of research staff, and for creating a maintaining a culture of inclusion in the workplace.
· Being responsible for designing and conducting equitable recruitment and hiring processes, training, mentoring, and supervising research staff, conducting training sessions, managing work performance, and mediating and addressing conflict.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
To be considered for the role of *Project Manager, *you must be a skilled researcher with a successful track record in project management, and whose profile includes:
· Experience in water-related research.
· A minimum a Master of Science degree, with a preference for completion of a Doctor of Philosophy, in a related field including Molecular Microbiology, Civil or Electrical Engineering, or Environmental Sciences.
· Three years of experience in project management.
· Knowledge and experience integrating EDI principles into project management would be considered an asset.
