*ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR, ACCOUNTS PAYABLEFINANCE & ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT*
Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, the Accounting Supervisor primarily oversees day-to-day operation of the assigned functional areas and provides a strong leadership in continuously improving functional efficiency and effectiveness. This position is 1 of 2 Supervisors on the team.
*MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES*
* Responsible for the direct supervision of the Accounts Payable, Payroll and other functions within Finance & Accounting
* Adheres to established deadlines, responsible for deliverables with accuracy and in a timely manner.
* Ensures timely closing of accounting periods and completion of monthly reconciliations and schedules.
* Leads, supports and mentors team members within Accounts Payable, Payroll and other functions within Finance & Accounting, to achieve professional growth and operational efficiency.
* Ensures financial processes are in compliance with Ministry of Children & Youth Services (MCYS) Directives and Agency?s established guidelines/procedures.
* Ensures strong internal controls over assigned functions to mitigate financial risks. Reviews and updates system controls, policies and procedures as required. Supports Agency staff in policy and procedure changes.
* Reviews and develops accounting policies and process procedures in accordance with Agency standards; provides leadership in the implementation of process improvement.
* Researches and implements improved functional service standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) based on best practices.
* Compiles and analyses large volume of data to support various department metrics and KPIs. Identifies action plans to improve performance where necessary.
* Engages and collaborates with other branches and teams to support overall Agency goals and objectives.
* Provides guidance and support to staff and evaluates staff performance in accordance with the Collective Agreement and Agency standards.
* Ensures Agency?s Code of Ethics, Confidentiality, Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism, Harassment & Discrimination policies, etc. are incorporated into self and team.
* Creates and leads a team that reflects diversity, support differences and encourage different perspectives.
* Uses sound judgment in consideration of financial resources within branch/departmental budget.
* Ensures compliance with Agency?s financial policies and procedures, as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (G.A.A.P.) and MCYS accounting standards.
* Works and ensures all staff members works in a safe manner in accordance with the Society?s health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.
* Participates as a member of the Finance Services Management Team providing strategic direction for the Finance Department
* Performs additional duties as assigned.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
*Education and Experience *
* University degree or a College diploma in a related field.
* Holds or working toward to a recognized professional designation such as CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or PLP (Payroll Leadership Professional) and continue to maintain the appropriate professional membership in Ontario; and
* A minimum of five years of progressively responsible working experience in accounting.
*Knowledge and Skills *
* High proficiency in managing full accounting close cycles and resolving complex general ledger reconciliation discrepancies.
* Experience in developing and writing of accounting policy and practical process documentation.
* Solid written and verbal communication skills in order to work effectively with various levels of staff in receiving or providing information.
* Strong relationship building and people skills to report on complex issues and facilitate co-operation among diverse groups.
* Works well in a team environment with the Finance and other non-Finance departments
* Proven ability to work with a high degree of independence solving complex problems, and strong analytical skills.
