*JOB DESCRIPTION:*
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief is a senior leadership position within the fire department and will be heavily responsible for working with the people of The Pas and surrounding areas to conduct fire prevention inspections and public safety education. This position will be required to participate in the on-call rotation within the department to respond to emergency situations as well assist the Fire Chief with department related matters.
*QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:*
· Completion of Grade 12 and graduation from a secondary school or equivalent technical school;
· 5-10 years of firefighting training with progressive responsibility required;
· Required courses or ability to achieve:
o Level I Fire Inspection (Level 2 preferred)? NFPA 1031
o Level I Firefighting (Level 2 preferred) ? NFPA 1001
o Emergency Services Instructor Level I (Level 2 preferred) ? NFPA 1041
o Fire & life Safety Educator ? NFPA 1035
o Valid Manitoba Class 4 driver?s license with Air;
o Valid First Aid/CPR C/AED certificate
o ICS-200
· Ability to interpret, administer and carry out the provisions of the Manitoba Fire Code and Workplace Health and Safety Legislation;
· Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
· Excellent interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills;
· Strong verbal and written communication skills;
· Effective decision-making abilities and organizational skills.
· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to exercise significant courtesy, tact and diplomacy.
· Sound judgment in the interpretation and application of bylaws, regulations, rules and codes related to the work.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
· Collaborate with the Fire Chief to develop and execute the departments strategic vision, ensuring alignment with the needs of the community and budgetary constraints
· Assist the fire chief with creation of annual operating and capital budget
· Assumes the temporary role of Chief in the Absence of The Fire Chief
· Fire Prevention and Life Safety Inspections
· Develop & Implement Public Safety Education Programs
· Assist and conduct regular training sessions for members
· Develop and maintain positive relationships with other emergency service agencies & community stakeholders
· Represent the fire department at community events, public forums, and professional gatherings, serving as an ambassador for fire safety and community preparedness
· Maintain and service equipment and apparatus?
Participate with on call schedule (30 - 50 percent)
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
