School District No. 38 Richmond<p> Director, Employee Relations Core Responsibilities:<p>The Director, Employee Relations is a senior level member of the Human Resources Department and is responsible for ensuring a cohesive and consistent approach to labour relations practices across the District. With a focus on building and maintaining strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, the Director, Employee Relations strives to reach collaborative, creative and innovative solutions to support the Districts vision, mission and values.Specific Responsibilities:<p> Provide district-wide strategic leadership on employee and labour relations issues<p> Provide expert advice and assistance to the Human Resources Department, Administrators and District Senior Leadership in the areas of CA interpretation, grievance resolution, arbitration preparation and presentation, employee discipline and employee management and performance<p> Lead as chief spokesperson for the organization in its collective bargaining relationships with employees represented by bargaining units<p> Lead investigations and fact-finding on investigations and provide recommendations for resolution to Human Resources, Administrators and District Senior Leadership<p> Organize and conduct grievance meetings, labour relations meetings and attend mediation and arbitration meetings as needed<p> Foster communication and resolution of concerns and issues, ensuring that decisions are aligned with District priorities and goals<p> Liaise with legal resources on issues including investigations, discipline, terminations and updating policies<p> Interpret, advise, coach and train management on collective agreements, policies, legislation and best practices, ensuring consistent and appropriate application of collective agreements<p> Work with Executive Director of HR to lead and support the development of strategic HR initiatives, policies and programs<p> Assumes responsibilities in the absence of the Executive Director, Human Resources<p> Actively participate and collaborate in team functions on a variety of projects and initiatives<p>Other Duties<p>Performs other duties as assigned from time to time by the Executive Director, Human Resources.Internal Relationships<p> Ensures the Executive Director, Human Resources, the Superintendent and other members of the senior management team have current knowledge of District labour relations issues.<p>Develops positive working relationships with other members of Human Resources, District senior management, and all employee groups.External Relationships<p>Liaises with union representatives, legal counsel, other school districts, professional associations and related organizations as required.Reporting Relationships<p> Reports To: Executive Director, Human Resources Directly<p> Supervises: Senior Manager, Human ResourcesQualifications and Experience<p> Minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in Human Resources with at least 6 years in a senior level role<p> Extensive experience in a large, complex organization in the areas of organizational development, progressive HR strategies, HR leadership and labour relations in a unionized environment<p> University Degree in Business Administration, Labour Relations or Human Resources, or a related discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and experience<p> Proven deliverables for negotiations, grievance/arbitration and dispute handlingCompetencies and Personal Characteristics<p> Superior organizational, management, leadership, and problem solving skills; Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining effective internal and external relationships within a comp
