Applications are currently being accepted for a Full Time Multi-Site Medical Laboratory Technologist positions for the Kincardine site of the South Bruce Grey Health Centre with shifts also assigned to the Walkerton site as required.
As a member of the Laboratory Services Team, the Medical Laboratory Technologist works under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, and in coordination with the Charge Technologists, works within his/her scope of professional practice in a team environment to collect samples and is responsible for performing a variety of diagnostic tests on patient specimens, for analysing and interpreting test results and prepare reports to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. The MLT must be knowledgeable and practice in accordance with the Medical Laboratory Technology regulatory bodies including, CMLTO, Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (formerly Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH)), and Hospital regulations and policies. In alignment with the SBGHC strategic priorities, the Laboratory Technologist may participate in user groups, and hospital-wide activities and programs and contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives as required.
*Applicants must meet the following criteria:*
* Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science
* Current registration and in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) is required
* Current membership with the Medical Laboratory Professionals? Association of Ontario (MLPAO) or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is required
* Heart & Stroke BCLS Certification preferred
* Working knowledge of lab and hospital software systems as needed
* 2 years? clinical experience with experience in Core lab disciplines (Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine) in a hospital laboratory setting within the last two years preferred
* Demonstrated excellent phlebotomy skills (all collection methods)
* Ability to interact effectively with others within and outside of the organization (i.e. staff physicians, patients, suppliers, Ministry of Health)
* Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
* Experience with large and small analyzers, dedicated instruments, calibrations and microscopes
* Availability to work all shifts and weekends as scheduled
* Experience with Point of Care Testing
* Ability to function effectively in a team environment
* Skills in leadership, problem solving, decision making and critical thinking
* Ability to handle exposures to infection, noise, odors, working interruptions and high pressure situations
* Commitment to continuous learning
* Ability to be respectful and maintain confidentiality
* Knowledge of and adherence to SBGHC Core Values (Teamwork, Empathy, Accountability, Mutual Respect, Safety)
* Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at SBGHC through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes

* Knowledge of and adherence to Occupational Health & Safety and infection control principles
