The district enrolls approximately 21,000 students (K-12) and employs over 3000 dedicated staff. <p>The Richmond School District is currently seeking a full-time Elementary Indigenous Success Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. <p>This is a three-year term position with the possibility of renewal. The Elementary Indigenous Success Teacher provides Elementary students with Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Mtis) ancestry, opportunities to enhance their cultural, emotional, and social well-being while ensuring their academic success. The Elementary Indigenous Success Teachers responsibilities vary according to the students needs and will provide in-class, pull-out and small group support. The Indigenous Success Teacher works as a member of the Indigenous Success Team and is expected to collaborate with others in the department as well as with school staff where students are receiving Indigenous Success service.<p>The successful candidate will participate in the Indigenous Education Advisory Committee, collaborate and co-develop cultural learning experiences that benefit Indigenous Students and support Indigenous community gatherings including the Achievement Ceremony, and Indigenous student field trips. Developing and maintaining communication, rapport and effectively working with students, families, community agencies and school-based staff and teams are expectations, as is compiling accurate records, maintaining individual student files and prepare monthly reports for the District Administrator for Equity, Inclusion, and Indigenous Success. The successful candidate will also take on the stewardship of 1 of 4 Indigenous Gathering spaces in the district. The position is an integral part of the Indigenous Success team and the Learning Services Department, and may, therefore, be involved in a wide variety of initiatives. Travel between Richmonds schools is required.<p>Qualifications: Knowledge and understanding of Richmonds Equity in Action Report and Recommendations and the Districts Strategic Plan, priority 1-Inspired Learners, and priority 2-Equity and Inclusion.<p> Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history in Canada and the diversity of Indigenous cultures.<p> Completed university coursework in Indigenous Studies is preferred; Recent classroom experience is an asset.<p> Knowledge and understanding of curriculum, Residential Schools and associated educational resources including pre-contact ways of being, knowing and doing, and the First Peoples Principles of Learning.<p> Experience working with Elementary students and building student connections to school; Able to connect with parents and caregivers in a supportive way to enhance school connectedness.<p> Effective organization, time management and communication skills. Able to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.Candidates will be expected to present a portfolio that demonstrates the required competencies outlined in this posting.
