Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Oversee the implementation of fire prevention campaigns
  • Plan, direct and co-ordinate firefighting strategies
  • Develop and implement procedures and policies for related firefighting operations
  • Co-ordinate and monitor budget and departmental resources
  • Direct the training of personnel in firefighting methods
  • Oversee analysis of data and information and prepare reports
  • Determine damage estimates and investigate the potential causes of a fire after extinguished
  • Direct activities at the scene of a fire
  • Evaluate the type of fire, the extent of damage to buildings and the danger to nearby establishments
  • Represent the fire department in communications with government, the media and the public
  • Supervise maintenance and repair services
  • Provide emergency services
  • Prepare presentation graphics and drawings
  • Plan schedules, goals and objectives
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures
  • Enforce policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations
  • Determine adequacy of personnel, equipment and technologies used for operations
  • Assist in the development of operation, maintenance and safety procedures
  • Assist in the establishment of unit policies and procedures
