Job details
Education: Bachelor's degree. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Outdoors. Cold/refrigerated. Noisy. Odours. Work setting: Residential. Landscape maintenance. Tasks: Organize planting of trees, gardens and lawns. Schedule work. Plan and estimate labour and materials. Plan, manage and supervise landscape construction work. Maintain work records and logs. Requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies. Resolve work problems, provide technical advice and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality. Supervise staff (apprentices, stages hands, design team, etc.). Project management. Estimate materials, tools and equipment required for projects . Establish work schedules and procedures. Co-ordinate activities with other work units or departments. Examine trees and shrubs to diagnose problems and disease. Apply fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, pesticides and other lawn care products. Plan and co-ordinate the growth and use of plants for landscaping, ornamental uses and other purposes. Assess the health of lawns. Trim trees to achieve the desired pruning objective such as crown cleaning, thinning, raising, reduction, restoration, espalier pruning, vista pruning. Supervision: 3-4 people. Equipment and machinery experience: Pick-up truck. Small engine equipment. Tractor mower. Planting equipment. Area of work experience: Plant disease, pest and weed prevention and eradication. Landscaping. Area of specialization: Lawn care. Plant knowledge and identification. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail.
