Our schools are teaching communities where principals, vice-principals, teachers and support staff nurture student well-being and challenge students to achieve their best.We are seeking creative, dynamic, committed educational leaders<p> to join the following initiative:Educational Assistant <p>50%, Regular (10 month work year) <p>$28.54 to $35.70 per hour <p>Ideal candidates will support the fulfillment of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Boards (OCDSB) Strategic Plan to enhance the quality of education in the school, and the District, by creating a positive and inclusive school climate, learning and workplace environment. Candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and respectfully, with a human rights and equity perspective, to foster student success, achievement and well-being. <p> Qualifications <p>Under the direction of the Principal, the Educational Assistant is an integral member of the school team and is responsible for the provision of support to students with exceptional needs within the school. The position involves dealing with confidential information and requires ongoing flexibility and variability. Responsibilities are varied, in collaboration with teaching and other professional staff, and include: supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and students with developmental disabilities; participation in pool programs, academic support, implementing special programs, support to deaf/hard of hearing or visually impaired students, physiotherapy exercises and stretches.<p>Educational Assistants may be required to modify programs and support learning for students with learning disabilities, and speech/language issues. Assignments may also include outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties. Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil are assets.<p>Candidate Profile:<p>The successful candidate will possess a community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent, and a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience with school aged special needs children. Equivalent programs must be assessed by People, Culture and Leadership staff. Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C is required. The successful candidate will have also completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training. Please ensure that you include copies of your diploma(s) and/or certificates that are applicable to the qualifications of an Educational Assistant.<p>Required Skills and Abilities DSW/CYW<p> Autism experience - experience in an ASD program would be an asset<p> ABA training/experience Assistive Technology Boardmaker, PECS<p> CPR/First Aid<p> Crisis Intervention<p> Behavior Modification Systems / NVCI training<p> Dependability, a strong work ethic, a flexible team player with good communication skills<p> Knowledge, practical and experience training/working with students with ASD, attachment and anxiety disorders, and understanding of specific social/emotional and physical needs of students with learning disabilities, behavioural challenges, developmental disabilities or physical challenges<p> Ability to observe, record and chart behaviour data<p> Experience with behaviour management and social skills<p> Yard dutyAdditional Comments : General Population - Intermediate <p> Application Process The Ottaw- LocationKanata, ON
