This includes investigating complaints, conducting inspections and educating the public and businesses regarding bylaws and regulations, and issuing warnings or violations when required. The Community Safety & Bylaw Officer plays an integral role in supporting Okanagan Indian Band maintain a high level of bylaw services, public safety and community harmony. Maintaining a visual presence across all OKIB reserves, the Bylaw Officer ensures consistent monitoring and enforcement compliance with all OKIB bylaws. REPORTING STRUCTURE Reports to the Director of Public Works & Housing SUPPORTS NEEDEDMonitors OKIB community lands to ensure compliance with OKIB Bylaws (water, trespassing, animal control, cannabis licensing, emergency,) Records and reports complaints and infractionsResponds to OKIB membership inquiries and complaints regarding public safety, unauthorized access, livestock and animal control, etc. Investigate possible infractions and issue Notices of Infractions, where applicable Maintains a daily written journal detailing patrol records, violation notices, and all other activities Compiles monthly and yearly statistics; prepares quarterly reports Assists in the drafting or redrafting of OKIB Bylaws Provides awareness, education and prevention workshops to the community Liaises with other governmental, law enforcement and regulatory agencies, including: RCMP, NORD, City of Vernon, City of Armstrong, OKIB Fire Department, SPCA Attends community events as required Reports to the RCMP any infractions of the Criminal Code where arrest or other RCMP action is necessary Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties Participates in community events as requested Performs other duties as required This position requires flexible work hours, including evenings and weekendsADMINISTRATIVE TASKS Prepares Briefing Notes Writes reports Attends Safety related meetings (e.g. OHSC, Community Safety Committee, etc.) Maintains a daily written journal detailing patrol records, violation notices and all other activities WHO ARE WE LOOKING FORYou have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.EducationPreference will be given to candidates who have completed the By-Law Compliance Enforcement and Investigative Skills Level 1 and 2.
