The City of Winnipeg will soon require its staff to work in the office at least three days per week. Currently about 1,650 of the city’s 10,400 employees work remotely at least part of the time. Some city councillors believe the change will be good for the downtown economy, while the union representing City workers worries the new requirement will hinder recruitment and retention efforts.
Payworks recently unveiled its new $60M headquarters in south Winnipeg. The company, which manages payroll and human resources services, has grown significantly in the last few years. At present, Payworks has more than 350 Winnipeg employees, compared to 200 in 2018.
