The funding will go towards expanding organizations’ capacity and programs supporting gender equality, such as training, policy development and community-led activities. The $11.77M expands on a previous $100M federal investment for economic and leadership opportunities for women.

The federal government is providing $2.5M for a five-year project to improve access to French-language health services in the Yukon. Canadian Heritage, Health Canada and the Yukon government are contributing $1.5M, $746K, and $250K respectively to the project. The Yukon government will collect preferred language data of patients, assign bilingual staff, and develop new digital tools.

The federal government has provided $15M to 27 Indigenous governments and organizations impacted by wildfires in the NWT last year. The money will go towards reimbursing expenses not covered under the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements program.

According to a Northwest Territories government’s flood after action review report, the 2021 flood season resulted in an estimated $40M in damages across six communities. Approximately 100 homes, 30 businesses, six non-government organizations and community infrastructure were damaged. Hundreds of residents from impacted communities were evacuated. The report also identified a need for job-specific training in emergency management.
