Saskatoon’s city council approved a new temporary shelter with 30 to 40 beds that could open as early as January. The shelter is a temporary solution to emergency shelter needs, though there are no plans for it become a permanent site.

The Government of Saskatchewan is issuing two Requests for Proposal to design an expansion of the physical space at the Royal University Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as well as implement phase two of a multi-year strategy to increase ICU capacity. The second phase looks to create more individual rooms and add bed capacity for up to 26 ICU patients.

Of the funding, $11.9M is allotted to hire approximately 100 new police officers, $2.7M to hire 14 new Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods officers, and $2.5M to the Saskatchewan Police College over three years.
