A planned $1-billion lithium-ion battery cell production plant in Maple Ridge, B.C., has been put on hold as the company shifts its focus to production in Taiwan. This move follows a trend of battery manufacturers across North America suspending similar expansion projects. The expansion was expected to create 350 new permanent jobs, in addition to securing the 100 existing positions at the site. At the time, the B.C. government had committed $80 million in funding for the facility, while the federal government pledged $204.5 million.
