The Government of Saskatchewan has contracted two medical leaders to conduct an independent external review of the working environment in Regina hospitals. The consultants will identify opportunities for improvement and create a better workplace for health care workers. Consultants will start the process with virtual assessments and in-person visits. The review is expected to be complete in spring 2025.

The YWCA Regina has opened the Kikakihtânaw Centre for Women and Families, a new facility aimed at supporting vulnerable women, children, and families. The $70-million centre addresses barriers for those fleeing homelessness or violence and offers essential services to those in need.

Riverside Mission, an emergency shelter in Moose Jaw, closed permanently on August 23. Plans construct a new facility this September have been abandoned. The shelter served meals to 50-100 people and provided 10 emergency beds for men.

The provincial government is spending $9.5M this year to open two new facilities for people who are considered to be a danger to themselves or others. The 15-bed residences are run by EHN Canada and are located in Regina and Saskatoon. They offer an alternative to police cells, allowing people to be detained for up to 24 hours under the supervision of counsellors, nurses, support staff, and security.
