NCSG, a crane and heavy haul company based in Western Canada, has been purchased by Barnhart Crane and Rigging Co., a Tennessee-based lifting and logistics contracting company. NCSG employs 400 workers across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, including two branches located in Fort St. John and Terrace.

Canfor Corporation, a Vancouver-based forest product company, announced a loss of $86M in Q1 2024. According to the release, sustained pressure on global lumber markets, especially for Southern Yellow Pine, impacted the company’s results in the US South. The company also struggled with accessing economically viable fibre in British Columbia, impacting results in Western Canada.

According to a Global Consulting Alliance forest sector outlook, Canadian lumber output was down more than 20% for most of 2023 and even lower in British Columbia. The report also notes that through to November 2023, Canadian softwood lumber exports were down 12.35B board feet compared to the previous year, mostly due to declining output in British Columbia.

The Government of B.C. is providing $25M to Vitalus Nutrition to expand its milk production plant in Abbotsford. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, and once complete, the facility’s processing capacity will be increased by 50% and support more than 3,000 indirect jobs.
